DOWN WINDSOR
WAY
What an enchanting book, taking one so vividly down a fifties memory lane. It truly is a little jewel, must be treasured at all cost, and also make you both very proud indeed
Sarah Miles, Sussex
It is so well written that the images and emotions are immediately felt; that little boy having to choose his wellies and leave Teddy behind made me want to cry.

Congratulations on a winning collaboration producing an "un-put-downable" narrative with illustrations so relevant in style to the text. A joy to read.
Roger Brookes, West Sussex
It has been a pleasure to work closely with William and Elizabeth on this project. Although the day to day life that the author describes is historic and does not represent modern Barnardo’s care, it is, from a sociological perspective, extremely interesting and therefore an important record of childcare in former times.
Barnardo's, Family Relationship Team
The script and story is a fascinating personal and thought provoking description of life as a Barnardo Boy. Carole and I have both read the book most carefully from cover to cover with the combined approach of proof reader, English teacher, and general reader and found the book an excellent read.
Anthony Froggatt, West Sussex
Thank you for sending me the book 'Down Windsor Way'. I must say Liz has done a first-rate job backed by Bill's deliberately childlike pen and ink drawings. You both seem to have hidden talents which you could exploit in the future, of that I am sure!
Francis Tyrrell, Kent
Down Windsor Way is an amazingly honest story which needed telling. In addition to being a combination of heartbreak and hilarity this book is so beautifully written and illustrated. In the last chapter there is the added bonus of learning of Bill's varied and interesting life after Barnardo's. What a remarkable publication from this hugely talented couple.
